Frost switches to HMD for 2022 season of IndyLights

Looking to scale new heights for his sophomore year in the NTT IndyCar series, Danial Frost has signed with HMD Motorsports for his second season in Indy Lights, having spent his rookie campaign with Andretti Autosport.

The Singaporean claimed two poles and four podiums in his first year in the championship and second year with Andretti after contesting a half-season in Formula Regional Americas with the outfit in 2020.

His prior Road to Indy experience before Indy Lights included seven races in USF2000 and two seasons in Indy Pro 2000 where he won three races and came third in the 2020 title race.

The HMD Motorsports crew welcomed me with open arms, and it has been a pleasure to work with their entire team during testing. My engineer Mike Reggio and I seem to be a perfect mix as his knowledge and skillset are exactly what I need to advance my career. The car is a little different than what I have been used to in the past, but I am coming to grips with it and had a great test at Barber Motorsports Park earlier this week.

Danial Frost #68

Frost is HMD’s first signing for 2022, although it’s already committed to co-running an entry with Global Racing Group for Benjamin Pedersen in the likely outcome that he remains in Indy Lights rather than lands a surprise IndyCar seat.

HMD won this year’s teams’ title, and ran David Malukas to second in the standings.

“Danial is a talented driver and will be a threat in 2022,” Mike Maurini, HMD’s general manager, said.

“He is the first driver that we are able to confirm for next season and with his plans set, he can focus on getting every tenth of a second out of the car and himself. We look forward to working with Danial as we head into a new season of racing.”

About HMD Motorsports

HMD Motorsports joined the Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires in 2017 and quickly made their mark as a front running team. Over the course of the past three seasons, the team has racked up numerous race wins, podiums, pole positions and track records across the three RTI ladder programs. Joining the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship in mid-2017, the team has continued to grow through all three rungs of the ladder series, expanding into Indy Pro 2000 in 2018 and into Indy Lights in 2019. In just three short seasons, HMD Motorsports has become an established front running team, going head-to-head and competing for wins in all three levels.
