Frost bags first MRF Challenge race win in Dubai
Frost claims maiden win in Race 2 to add to his podium third place in Race 1
Dubai, UAE, Friday, 16 November 2018 – After a strong start on Thursday at the first round of the 2018/19 MRF Challenge International Winter Series at the Dubai Autodrome, the second day of action saw Singapore’s Danial Nielsen Frost take it up a notch. After a stunning recovery drive in Race 1 to claim a solid podium finish in third place, the teenager went one better when he claimed his maiden race victory in the series after clinching a win in Race 2 on Friday afternoon.
Kicking off the day with qualifying in the morning, the session proved a difficult one for Frost, who despite having the pace qualified to start Race 1 from P8 on the grid. Unfazed by the setback, the teenager was quickest off the line at the start of Race 1 as he sought to make up as much ground as possible. Lapping considerably quicker than the rest, it did not take long for Frost to find his way into the top three. In addition to taking the flag in third place, Frost also claimed the fastest lap of the race.
Buoyed by his performance and pace, another solid start from P4 in Race 2 saw Frost overtake three cars to claim the lead of the race very early on. From that point on, he did not look back as he controlled and dictated the pace at the front while maintaining the lead throughout the 10-lap race en route to his first race victory of the season.
Delighted with his maiden win, Frost notes:
Finally on top, what a great feeling! I feel really happy especially the first time getting a win in the MRF Challenge. It is only the second race of the season and there are still a lot more races, definitely and hopefully there will more results like this to come. I am quite happy with the results as I managed to have a great start in both races. I did not have a great qualifying session, so my focus was making sure I had a good start in Race 1 and make up as much ground and am happy with a third place result. I had a really great start in Race 2 as I managed to take the lead from early on and maintained the pace throughout. There are three more races tomorrow and this result is definitely a huge boost!
– Danial Frost
We always knew Danial had the pace from the outset. Despite not qualifying very well, Danial has had two excellent starts and the fastest lap in Race 1 that proved to him that he has the potential. He did a great job to come home in third, especially knowing that we are up against some strong competition this season. Starting in fourth, he had another superb start in Race 2 as he was in first place almost immediately off the start line. He did not make any mistakes, kept his cool and controlled the pace at the front. He drove a smart race to take his first race win!
