Frost Returns to Podium with 2nd Place Finish at Mid-Ohio

Lexington, Ohio (September 14, 2020) – Danial Frost made his return to the podium with a second place finish in Race 1 at this weekend’s Surgere Indy Pro 2000 Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio. The 18 year-old also scored his first Cooper Tires Pole Award of the season in Friday’s Qualifying 1 with a fastest lap time of 1:16.2136.

In Race 1, the win was in hot pursuit, causing Frost to lose his starting position on lap one to the #9 car of Parker Thompson. With the fight for the lead carrying on, Frost’s #68 DENJET car swapped positions with the #8 car of Manuel Sulaiman just before the leader suffered an engine failure that took him out of the race. From there, Frost put the pressure on Sulaiman throughout the remaining laps, ultimately crossing the finish line just behind him in P2.

Race 2 got off to a rocky start with rainy weather taunting the 14-car field in the morning; the slippery opening laps caused Frost to fall back to P6. However, the treacherous conditions ended up red-flagging the event after four laps to restart later in the day. With sunnier skies in the afternoon, the race recommenced with Frost jumping up to fifth and team mate Comeau to seventh in the initial laps. After Frost regained P5, he chased down the #42 car of Artem Petrov for P4. While the Singaporean got close, he couldn’t quite catch Petrov before the clock ran out and finished Race 2 in P5.

I’m really happy to be back on the podium this weekend. We made good progress on the championship, and the team did a great job once again giving me an amazing car. There were a lot of positives to take out of this weekend. We have to keep pushing for the remaining rounds, and we’ll have to see what we can do at New Jersey Motorsports Park. It’s a new track for all of us, and I think that we can make big strides there. Thank you to everyone that made the results this weekend happen!

 – Danial Frost

Frost leaves the weekend fourth in the championship with Comeau in 11th. With five races remaining in the 2020 Indy Pro 2000 Championship presented by Cooper Tires, the championship hunt remains alive with only 15 points separating second, third, and fourth.

It was great to be back at Mid-Ohio with IndyCar.You could certainly feel the buzz around the paddock with the support series and the fans at the race.

It was a very busy Friday for our team with three on track sessions that day. The #3 car had an engine issue, so we decided to do an engine change ahead of the second qualifying session. My team of guys did a great job getting the engine changed in an hour and twenty minutes. This allowed Antoine to make Qualifying 2, and the engine change was definitely an improvement on what we had heading into Races 1 and 2. I feel both of our drivers did a solid job over the weekend and got some good points for the championship. Now, we will shift our focus to New Jersey Motorsports Park where we will keep pushing for race wins.

Frost moves up in Championship After Freedom90

Indianapolis, Ind. (August 22, 2020) – As last year’s winner of the Cooper Tires Freedom 90 at Lucas Oil Raceway, championship contender Danial Frost went into this weekend’s event hoping to duplicate that result and land on the top step of the podium once again.

The #68 DEN-JET driver topped two of the three test sessions on Thursday, but ended up with the fourth fastest time in the single car qualifying effort. On Friday, the 18-year-old was once again the fastest driver in the pre-race practice session, setting a good expectation for the nighttime event, and with a strategy in mind for the race, Frost set out to challenge for the win.

Our plan going into the race was to conserve the tires as much as possible initially and catch up with the leaders once they hit traffic at the back of the field. That strategy paid off for us, and we got up to third place and held there for quite a bit.

 – Danial Frost

Frost improved to third and held on for a good portion of the race, but the surrounding cars gave a good fight until the end of the fully green conditions race, and the Singaporean dropped to fifth just before the checkered flag. Although he didn’t get the result he hoped for, Frost accumulated enough points to maintain third in the championship with just a nine point different among the top three competitors.

Later in the race, we were just lacking the pace we needed and dropped down to fifth, but I think it was still a good day,” continued Frost. “We were able to bring back the car in one piece, and consistency is the key right now. We made some headway in the championship and are just nine points down from P1, so we’re looking forward to Gateway next week. Our car seems very strong there, so I’m excited to see how it goes.

 – Danial Frost

The results in the race weren’t what we were hoping for. I feel like we had a better package than P5, but unfortunately, that’s what we ended up with. It was very important that we brought both cars back in one piece so we can regroup for Gateway next week, and both of our drivers did that. The team performed very well; Danial’s pace was good in practice, and Antoine improved every session. It was just a shame that we couldn’t carry that result through to the race. Overall, I’m satisfied with the weekend, and we improved again as a team which is important for the growth of our program. Thanks to all the crew and everyone involved for their continued hard work.”

The oval portion of the season continues next week from August 28-29 at World Wide Technology Raceway just outside of St. Louis. With points being worth more on the oval courses, the championship fight will still be in full swing going into Round 7.

Hard Charger win for Frost at FR America’s VIR

DRAMATIC WIN FOR FROST & T3M AT ROAD AMERICA

Elkhart Lake, Wis. – In an unbelievable drive from the back of the grid, Danial Frost won the opening round of the 2020 Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires at Road America Friday.

Frost set the pace with the fastest practice time on Thursday and solidified his speed by qualifying on pole by 0.3 seconds. Unfortunately, a technical oversight nullified his lap time, and he was placed at the back of the field to start the first race.

Knowing his No. 68 DEN-JET car was fast, the 18-year-old made it his mission to fight back to the front, and by lap two, he had already flown up to fourth position. As the laps ticked by, Frost pushed on, and on a last lap shootout, he overtook Devlin DeFrancesco just before the checkers in a thrilling side-by-side victory.

Coming into qualifying, we managed to get the car on pole, but with some technical difficulties, we were sent to the back of pack for the first race. In Race 1, we knew we had to charge ahead and take some risks, and we were rewarded with first place which I am very excited and happy about.

 – Danial Frost

Frost started second for Race 2 and finished the final stint of the weekend with another podium finish in third place, putting him six points ahead in the driver’s championship. Later that day and into the morning, multiple rainstorms hit the Wisconsin track, creating damp conditions for qualifying, but that did not deter the determined spirit of Frost.

We started second for Race 2, and it didn’t really go as planned, but we still pulled off a podium,” continued Frost. “There was one mistake I made that caused me to lose a spot, so I’m a little disappointed about that, but it is what it is, and racing is a long, long sport so you have to focus on the big picture instead. That being said, I’m really happy that we got a first and third this weekend, and I think we are in a pretty good shape for the championship. We have a six point lead right now, and we are on the right path for the rest of the year. I’m super proud of the team and myself for what we accomplished this weekend. We will keep pushing, and hopefully we can repeat this result at Mid-Ohio next.

 – Danial Frost

Through the highs and lows of the weekend, Turn 3 Motorsport persevered with focus and intent, and the team is contently lying second in the team standings after the opening round of the 2020 Indy Pro 2000 Championship.

I’m extremely proud of what we achieved as a team in our first race weekend of the season. Expanding to two cars meant we had to grow as a team, and I really feel we have a great group of people working with us and also two great drivers. Danial did an outstanding job, and we started off this season very strongly.

 – Peter Dempsey – Team Owner, Turn3 Motorsport

Turn3 Motorsport was estatic at the way the race was turned around in light of the nullification of Frost’s qualifying results, and the entire crew had good reason to celebrate after witnessing quite the spectacle.

Unfortunately, after Danial did a phenomenal lap in qualifying, we had a technical oversight that sent him to the back of the grid. I’ve been part of the Road to Indy for 12 years now, and his drive in the first race was one of the best I’ve seen. He really redeemed himself and the team after qualifying. He did a solid job in the second race, too, and I’m very impressed with how he managed that race. A special thanks to all the crew and the team for making the weekend as successful as it was. Now we turn our focus to preparing for Mid-Ohio.

Up next on the schedule are back to back race weekends at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course July 29-30 and August 7-9.
